The HTTT Circuit of Paul Ricard has hosted the fifth dynamic test of the Megane Trophy and the World Series Formula Renault 3.5. Reigning World Series champion, Heikki Kovalainen, has tested the New Formula Renault 3.5 for the first time, alongside Jonathan Cochet, while Stèphane Ortelli was behind the wheel of the spectacular Megane Trophy car. For some of the World Series by Renault teams it was the time to discover these two spectacular cars!
Renault Sport continues with their schedule of dynamic tests for the New Formula Renault 3.5 and the Megane Trophy. Both are visiting again the impressive facilities of the HTTT Circuit of Paul Ricard, located in the region of Var.
Reigning World Series champ, Heikki Kovalainen (1.22.825) was behind the wheel of the new Formula Renault 3.5 for the first time and he was able to complete more 58 laps without any major problems. The Finnish driver was on duty all day focusing on the new definitive version of the engine (new oil circuit) and some tyre testing, as well as the cooling system. Heikki was happy to rejoin the World Series for a day. The car will continue on the dynamic test tomorrow with Jonathan Cochet.
Most of the Team Principals and prospective drivers had the opportunity to see the Megane Trophy in action for the first time. Over 40 people have gathered in the HTTT Circuit of Paul Ricard to watch Stèphane Ortelli completing 70 laps. Already 30 cars have been sold, with Teams from Spain, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Andorre, Portugal France, Germany, Austria and Czech Republic. The first cars will be delivered the 28th of February.
Jerôme Mortal (RST Development Chief)):
"Our test today was focused on the cooling system and the tyre compounds. Also it is the first time that we test the engine final version that features a new oil circuit. I'm quite happy with the result. In the Megane Trophy we have been testing also the cooling system as we will race in some circuits where the temperature is quite high. All the major aerodynamic parts had been successfully tested in order to send them to production ".
Heikki Kovalainen (RDD driver and World Series by Nissan 2004 winner):
"The car has improved a lot with the new aerodynamic shape and it's got more ground effect, also is even faster in the corners. The pedal shift system is quite good. I guess you can always improve things but in comparison with the old World Series car I can tell there has been a good evolution ".
