Maldonado Joins DAMS in The 2005 Formula Renault 3.5
Le Mans, 8th February 2005 -- After winning the 2004 Italian Formula Renault Championship and being integrated in the Renault Driver Development, emerging talent from Venezuela Pastor Maldonano will join the 2003 FRV6 Champion Team DAMS for their assault in the new Formula Renault 3.5 Championship, part of the 2005 World Series.
Jean-Paul Driot, CEO of DAMS : "Last year Pastor was competing in the same weekends than us so we had many opportunities to watch him racing. From the very first race in Monza we have been impressed by his talent. He is young and has a lot more to learn but I am convinced that he has the capacity to be in the front and fight for the win. Last year at Spa he did 1 race in FRV6 and finished 5th, without any experience of this kind of car, this is a real performance and it confirmed what we had seen in FR2000, Pastor was then making part of our short list for 2005."
Eric Boullier, Managing Director of DAMS : "Pastor came to visit us in Le Mans where he will leave for the season, the first contact with the team was very good. Here he will have everything he needs to be at the top and I am sure that he will be at the level of more experienced drivers. Pastor has also integrated the Renault Driver Development system, he is now reaching a very high level in racing and our role is to help him to adapt to this new environment and keep focused in the improvement of his driving, physical condition and technical background. With the talent of Pastor I am quite confident on these points."
Pastor Maldonado will test for DAMS at the first official test of the Team with a 2004 World Series car on 19th and 20th February on the Paul Ricard track. The first race of the season is planned on 30th April at Zolder (Belgium).
