P1 MOTORSPORT LAUNCHES 2008 WORLD SERIES CAMPAIGN
British racing team P1 Motorsport today launched it's 2008 campaign for the World Series by Renault 3.5 Championship, with drivers Giedo van der Garde and Pippa Mann. The team invited sponsors, guests and media to P1's workshop in Norfolk, where they presented the brand new cars, new livery and innovative, designer team kit.
On an unusually sunny day in April, the drivers, mechanics, engineers and Team Director Roly Vincini all posed with the car in front of their new transporter, also painted in the team's new colour scheme. Designed by lifestyle fashion brand McGregor and inspired by racing and style legend Steve McQueen, the new livery and team clothing has a distinctly retro feel to it - sporting red, white and blue striping. However, the team are definitely looking ahead to the coming season, notably the end of this month when their 2008 campaign for victory begins.
P1 Motorsport will be returning to the World Series by Renault having successfully completed their debut year in 2007. Having scored podiums and pole positions, the team achieved strong results last season but are now chasing their illusive first win in the series, and are hopeful they will not only attain this but also challenge for the title.
Dutchman Giedo van der Garde joins the team as an experienced race winner and former Karting World Champion. Having consistently finished last season in the points with Victory Engineering, he has the speed and determination to take up the title challenge with P1 Motorsport, and is looking forward to the year ahead: "The team really impressed me throughout the winter testing and pre-season preparations, and I'm confident that together we can compete at the front of this championship. Roly (Vincini) has plenty of experience which is so important in a series such as this one, and I think both myself and team are hungry for and ready to win."
British racing driver Pippa Mann re-signed with P1 Motorsport for her second year in January, following an impressive debut season in the series which saw the 23 year-old score points in her first race and start from pole position in her second. Mann is set to return with the P1 squad for what promises to be her best year yet: "I'm under no illusion that it's going to be easy, but as long as I can continue in the same way that I finished 2007, then I should be able to achieve the goals of regularly scoring points. There are some changes - a new car, and I have a new team mate in Giedo, but I'm excited about everything and basically cannot wait to get back out onto the circuit!"
The first round of the World Series by Renault 3.5 will take place at Monza in Italy on 26th April, while the team's final test is scheduled for next week at the Circuit de Catalunya, just outside Barcelona.
