Michelin and Marc Gené develops the Telefónica World Series by Nissan new Michelin tyre compound for 2003
Barcelona, 8 January 2003 Through the 2002 year, Michelin has been developing a new tyre compound to be used in the TWS by Nissan during the 2003 Season. During the last days of December, Michelin organised a test in the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana with the TWS Spanish team Adrian Campos Motorsport, in order to develop this new concept of tyre.
Michelin asked for the participation of the BMW.WilliamsF1 test driver, Marc Gené, who is normally in charge of the development of its Formula One tyres, in order to obtain the maximum potential of the new tyre compound. AER (Advanced Engine Research) was also participating in this test with all his race engineers. AER, the current Nissan engine supplier, fitted the Dallara Nissan car with its new V6 version of 450 HP which will be equipping the 24 existing 2003 World Series cars in 2003.
The combination of the new engine fit, the new tyre compound, and the excellent performance of the Spaniard driver, Marc Gené, beat all the established records reached by the World Series in 2002.
With the new technical specifications, in 2003 the TWS by Nissan cars will be the fastest single-seater cars by far, after Formula 1.
The work made by Michelin with this new compound proved to be very impressive.
