Molina in line for Monaco Glory
Greg Mansell (#3): Start Position: 18th
Miguel Molina (#4): Start position: 5th
Ultimate Motorsport's Miguel Molina and Greg Mansell took to the streets of Monte Carlo for qualifying for Round 5 of the 2009 Formula Renault 3.5 Championship with the Molina finishing the session in 5th overall and Mansell 18th.
The Spanish driver, who has raced at Monaco for the past two years, was one of the quickest drivers in the session but lost out when he had to take to the escape road at Mirabeau and required the assistance of marshals to regain the track. This cost Molina his fastest lap time and he finished the session heading up row 3 for tomorrow mornings race. However, this puts him in contention for a podium finish on the twists and turns of the world's most famous street circuit.
Greg Mansell will start his very first race in Monaco in 18th after a difficult qualifying session that saw the Englishman set the 9th fastest lap time in his group.
"Qualifying was very disappointing for us," said Team Manager Colin Morgan. "Both drivers should have been further up the grid than their final positions indicate. Miguel is one of the most experienced drivers on the grid and from 5th he should be in with a chance of a podium finish. This will be Greg's first race here and starting in 18th means it isn't going to be easy tomorrow. However at Barcelona and Spa he showed that he has the determination to press on during the race and, despite the fact that it is very difficult to overtake here, I'm sure he'll be able to move up the order tomorrow."
Round 5 of the 2009 Formula Renault 3.5 Series will take place on Sunday 24 May at 11:14 (local time) just before Round 5 of the Formula One World Championship.
