Jan Charouz to get first taste of the Monte Carlo Formula 1 track
Upcoming weekend (13th-16th May) brings to Jan Charouz the most prestigious race of the year in the World Series by Renault. The fifth race of the World Series by Renault season is part of the support program of the formula 1 Grand Prix of Monaco weekend. The Czech driver of the British P1 Motorsport team is going to get the first taste of the famous street track in the streets of Monte Carlo.
All 24 drivers racing in the World Series by Renault obviously dream about the big win in the Moneqasque principality. Every single driver wants to impress all formula 1 bosses. Both P1 Motorsport drivers Jan Charouz and Walter Grubmuller Jr. are, of course, not an exception. They might both be rookies in the series but they are not definitely without a chance. After all, rookies won the last two races there: Charles Pic won in 2008 and Olivier Turvey took the flag last year.
The packed formula 1 race weekend means that the World Series by Renault has been using a different format comparing to the other race weekends. There is just one race on Sunday instead of usual two races. Also qualifying is different. The fight for the grid position is not on the race day bit takes place on Saturday. Moreover, the drivers will not run all together but will be split to two groups.
Jan Charouz, P1 Motorsport driver: "It is going to be my first ever drive at the famous Monte Carlo track and it will be a big challenge for sure. I used Toyota F1 simulator i Cologne as part of my preparation where I did about 200 laps. It was a good experience for sure and it helped me but the reality will be definitely different. The most important will be not to do any mistakes and complete all practices, qualifying and race. I will have to learn more things comparing to other tracks but it does not change my aims I will again try to score points which means a top 10 finish."
Walter Grubmuller Jr., P1 Motorsport driver: "I have been thoroughly preparing for this race. I had an opportunity to learn the track on the Toyota simulator in Cologne. I also worked on my physical preparation. I hope that I will manage to do a good qualifying and also to drive the whole race without any issues. If I manage this the points should be again within our reach."
