Christian Montanari snatches the pole!
S.Marino' driver of the Draco Multiracing USA Team Christian Montanari conquered the pole position thanks to a perfect lap carried out in the official qualifying session in Montecarlo where the third challenge of the 2005 WSR season will take place tomorrow.
Montanari, who took pole position in the last seconds of the odd-numbered session, dominated the qualifying signing the absolutely best time - 1'25.465.
German Markus Winkelhock, who obtained the fifth best lap in the even- numbered session, will start tomorrow from the fifth row. The fastest driver in the free-practices of Thursday, Winkelhock could take today the pole certainly, but he didn't succeed in finishing the session because of a suspension damage after a crash into the guardrail at Sainte-Devote.
Mrs Nadia Morini, Draco Team Manager: "On the one hand we are happy with the pole of Montanari, on the other hand, it's a pity for Winkelhock, who could have carried out the best lap. This was the occasion in which we could have lined up two cars in pole, as in Montecarlo the drivers are split into two groups, even and odd numbers. We hope Winkelhock makes tomorrow a big comeback and Montanari manages the race at his best, and of course, we hope they take the podium!"
Christian Montanari, Draco Driver: "That's great ! It's the first time that I race in Montecarlo, this circuit is fantastic, the atmosphere is really particular...We have worked hard; Thursday we realized at once that we had the potential to be successful, in fact we've made it! To start in front is very important here, as to pass is very difficult...This pole rewards me and all the Draco Team for our big work."
Markus Winkelhock, Draco Driver: " I locked up the front left wheel and the car pulled right at Sainte-Devote. I could have got pole position, I was feeling stronger lap by lap."
