Tiago Monteiro faced some difficulties at Magny Cours; He will be 8th and 4th at the starting grid
Tiago Monteiro won't have an easy ride at the lead of the World Series by Nissan, which will visit the French Circuit of Magny Cours this weekend, since he faced several problems right from the free practice session up to today's qualifying session, where obtained the 8th quickest time for tomorrow's sprint race, and 5th for the longest one. The Portuguese Driver gave his best and will probably be one of Sunday's main challengers.
"I want to leave Magny Cours with the greatest amount of points possible, but it won't be easy to maintain the World Series lead," commented the Official Minardi F1 Test-Driver, which seems to be out of luck at the wheals of his Dallara/Nissan at the French Circuit: "During the free practice session, my car burned up on the third lap, due to a short circuit. While the other Teams had the opportunity to develop their setups, my car was being rebuilt in the pits. Friday was our chance to fine tune the formula, but once again we faced some problems, with a broken rear suspension and a very unstable car."
At today's first qualifying session, the Portuguese wasn't able to overcome some brake problems which kept blocking his car's nose, forcing Tiago Monteiro to loose, here and there, some precious tenths of a second, which added up, pushed him back to the fourth row of the starting grid: "I haven't had my car in perfect conditions and I believe that it will be truly difficult to achieve a good result if we don't manage to solve these brake problems. I will start on the 8th position of the first race, but I hope to have everything at 100% by then, so that I may secure as many points possible."
After his Carlin Team entirely replaced his braking system, Tiago Monteiro was one of the Drivers who fought for the top spots during the second qualifying session and, happy with the car handling, signed the 4th quickest time.
