Jonathan Cochet sets the fastest lap at his debut in Magny Cours.

Cochet (1.25. 764) was the quickest driver at the two-day Telefónica World Series by Nissan test that took place at Magny Cours. Jonathan Cochet set the fastest lap in his first contact with the Dallara Nissan, preceding the Racing Engineering champ couple: Franck Montagny and Justin Wilson.

WORLD SERIES develops a new poweshift system

Monday 26th August 2002 Jonathan Cochet turn out to be the fastest driver at his debut with the 415 Hp all-new Dallara Nissan cars, lapping 1.25.764. The brilliant French driver will make his debut the next Saturday at Magny Cours, racing in the fifth meeting of the Series: "I met my new team, GD Racing, and I really liked it. I got along so well with my new engineer, somebody I knew from the old times in F3. The Dallara Nissan cars are really impressive, the are very sensible to changes, and we had a lot of opportunities to test different set ups, and so on. My deal is for a couple of meetings, but if everything goes well, I could stay until the end of the Season"

The test gave relevant information to all ten Teams entered in the Series, and the local drivers did their best to achieve the best performance. Ravier (Epsilon by Graff) the third French driver in the Series, was eleventh.

Ricardo Zonta, the current leader, was sixth (1.26.658) and the only driver who was not in new tyres: "I was trying to put the car to the limit and suddenly I lost control. If I had the time to put new tyres, I'm sure I could much improve my time, but sixth in this conditions is quite a good lap". Bas Leinders, second in the overall, unlucky because of his accident, was three tenths quicker than Zonta (1.26.328).

New "Powershift" system

Eight drivers were packed in the one second, proving this Series to be quite competitive. Since this test, the Dallara Nissan SN01 cars are fitted with a new "powershift" system. Drivers applauded not only the mechanical benefit but also the critical tenths of a second you may gain in one lap.
