FDA- Incredible fight back from Zampieri at Magny Cours
Maranello, 19 June 2010 --Today saw the first of this weekend's two WSR races take place at Magny Cours, which is hosting the fifth round of this season's series.
Even though Race 1 was won by Mikhail Aleshin (Carlin) ahead of Esteban Guerrieri (ISR) and Stefano Coletti (Comtec Racing,) it also featured an amazing performance from the Ferrari Driver Academy's young talent, Daniel Zampieri. The Roman driver started from sixteenth on the grid and staged a spectacular climb through the field, which ended in him crossing the line in fifth place, after a series of incredible overtaking moves.
Having already made up six places on the opening lap, the Pons Racing driver then continued to up his pace, as he got the better of Nathanael Berthon (Draco) on lap 3 and Anton Nebylitskiy (KMP Racing) at the hairpin. On lap 13, Zampieri was on another charge, this time dispensing with Albert Costa (Epsilon Euskadi) which saw him move up to sixth, before also overtaking Daniel Ricciardo (Tech 1 Racing,) to cross the line in a well deserved fifth place.
Once again, Zampieri demonstrated his mastery of wet conditions in a race which highlighted his driving skills in extreme conditions as he also put behind him the problems of his unlucky weekend in the Czech Republic at the previous round.
The Ferrari Driver Academy racer will be back in action on the French track tomorrow at 12.50, for the second and final leg.
