Bernoldi in Command

March 9 -- Former F1 driver Enrique Bernoldi has set the fastest timed lap in Jarama with his GD Racing Car in the first practice of the World Series by Nissan. The most outstanding 3.000 c.c. Series of the moment is as full of new talents as of expertise drivers. The new entered Teams, Porfesa Competicion, Belmondo Racing and Pons Racing were brilliant in his debut.

At 14 hours the Circuit of Jarama has lived the first World Series by Nissan Collective Test. The World Series by Nissan single-seater is equipped with a Nissan engine developing 450 Hp and allows 300 Km/h speeds in the fastest tracks.

The championship, which is its third year of life, has demonstrated the high level of its drivers, with the most expert ones topping the list of times, although the new teams have shown a very good start.

Bernoldi was unable to beat Zonta's best registered lap. He keeps the fresh new tyres for tomorrow. However he has demonstrated that being an expertise is always positive. In Jarama he had visited the podium and today, he is the one in command, leaving the young Felix Porteiro, second fastest, six tenths behind. Porfesa Competicion has worked well during the winter.

Didier Andre, now defending his new colours with KTR, has been always in the front positions, but due to an incident with the car he finished 4th, one tenth behind the current vice-Champion, Heikki Kovalainen.

Good hopes for the team Gabord Reyco. Juan Cruz Alvarez has driven the Dallara Nissan car superbly but a mistake when he was in new tyres cost him two places.

Carlin Motorsport has not had any problem in putting his car and Tiago Monteiro in the 7th top position. Tiago, 27, has been designed recently as the development test driver for Minardi. Again, a newcomer driver has highly surprised the World Series by Nissan family finishing in 8th position. This is the case of Ryo Fukuda, f3 front-runner, who has made his debut alongside the new team Belmondo Racing.

Sito Pons didn't miss his World Series debut

Two time world bike champion Sito Pons did not want to miss the debut of his own team during the first tests. The Famous Team Manager has followed very closely the evolutions of his two drivers, the Finnish Heikki Kovalainen (3º), and the Spanish Adrian Valles (11º). Sito Pons and Technical Director Jesus Sanchez were seating in the pit wall again. Are they going to sign another victory together, like in the old times?

Joel Camathias y Saulnier Racing in talks

Former Champ Car driver, Joel Camathias, will be working with Saulnier Racing either in Jarama and Barcelona. Serge Saulnier and the Swiss driver are in talks for the current season. Although he is only 23, Camathias has participated in several top single-seater competitions.

Matteo Pellegrino demolishes World Series Light lap record at Jarama

The third and final practice time session of the World Series Light has been the quickest. Superb track conditions allowed all the drivers to improve their times. Pellegrino has set a new record in the category lapping 1.26.352 (160.5 km/h), followed closely by Celso Miguez and Milos Pavlovic. The debutants Simon Abadie and Mathieu Lahaye, had equally achieved very respectable times, as well as the young Giovanni Tedeschi. The Italian is making his debut at the age of 16.
