READY FOR ACTION AFTER BARCELONA TEST
Jersey, UK -- 11 April 2008: James Walker was at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona this week making his final preparations for the 2008 World Series by Renault season which gets underway in just two weeks time. The Jersey driver undertook a busy three-day test programme with Fortec Motorsport, with the objective of getting back into the groove of racing and really getting to grips with the new World Series race car.
This test gave James his first opportunity for some extended running in the 2008-spec car. On day one the team made a lot of sweeping changes to the car's set-up to understand how it reacted to changes and James ended the day an excellent eighth fastest of the 25 drivers.
Day two dawned under rainy skies and a lot of the drivers sat out the first part of the day while the conditions improved. James took to the track an hour into the session and reported back that the new car handled very well in wet conditions. He quickly demonstrated this fact by going second fastest.
On day three a gearbox problem that had first appeared on day one caused James to miss some of the day's running. An electronics glitch meant that he was having trouble down-shifting, which in turn affects engine braking and ultimate lap times. James and the team still made good progress on track, trying out more set-up configurations, and James now knows he has an exciting season ahead of him in the new car.
"The new car is great to drive," said James. "You can really feel the new aero package which gives us a lot more grip at the front. It's awesome on new tyres and I was really pleased that it felt so solid in wet conditions. This three day test has been really positive and I can't wait for the first race at Monza which is a circuit I love."
