Kerr victim of repeat Turkish take out

Istanbul Park, Turkey Robbie Kerr, #5 Team KTR, Race 2 -- Qualified: 21st / Finished: DNF - Contact

While Robbie Kerr headed to Istanbul Park hoping for some Turkish delight from this weekend's World Series by Renault double-header the experience turned into more of a Turkish nightmare for the British racer.

Today's events on-track mirrored yesterday's frustrations, Kerr would again fall victim to a rival's mistake and be taken out of the action. Race 2, Qualifying (Pole -- Pastor Maldonado, 1m39.530s) Looking to improve upon the previous day's qualifying effort Robbie headed out with a revised set-up, the team opting to try softer rear springs to see if it would improve the balance of the car.

Unfortunately for all concerned it didn't and with track-time in short supply Kerr made do with what he had, setting a 1m41.0087s lap placing him a disappointing 21st on the 30-car grid.

Race 2, 23 Laps (Winner -- Alvaro Parente, Victory Engineering)

As he had done the previous day, Robbie catapulted himself off the line at the start of today's race. Climbing the order Robbie then took his mandatory stop as soon as the pit-window opened at the end of lap five. Slick pit work from the KTR crew and a vastly improved race car saw Kerr break into the top-ten but with five laps remaining his challenge was brought to an abrupt halt.

Christian Montanari spun at the exit of the chicane at Turn 9, kept his foot down and promptly speared back on track and into Kerr's path, Robbie helpless to do anything to avoid contact with the wayward Italian -- both cars out on the spot. Having arrived in Turkey sitting joint ninth in the championship standings, Robbie left the Eastern European track empty-handed for the first time this season.

Robbie Kerr - #5 Team KTR: "It's just been a frustrating weekend. I was competitive in both races, looking good for points scoring finishes, only to be taken out through no fault of my own. I just want to get to the next race and start again!"

The World Series by Renault heads to Misano, Italy for Round 4, 15th-16th July.
