Draco takes 10th place with Fantin at Alcaniz

It hasn’t been an easy Saturday for International Draco Racing, but at least the team had some good indications in order to go for a rebound tomorrow. This is the bottom line following the results of Race 1 of the World Series Renault 3.5 at Motorland Aragón in Alcaniz. After a good qualifying session that handed him a spot in row 4, Brazilian Pietro Fantin delivered a smooth Race 1 performance as he faced several battles to round out the top-10. He also scored one point in what have been a pretty consistent effort.

On the other hand, rookie racer Luca Ghiotto experienced more troubles. In qualifying, he suffered from a DRS issue and from a couple of traffic situations in key moments, ending up in 17th. Forced to start from the 9th row, the young Italian scored 16th on a racetrack where passing is no easy task. However, the potential is there and after the great runs at Monza, he’s definitely looking forward to get his revenge from tomorrow’s Qualifying 2 session.

Pietro Fantin (Q1 – P8; R1 – P10): “Despite the good points finish, we aren’t where we wanted because the car is quite difficult to drive. Qualifying was good but despite the fact that the set-up changes we made were just the regolar ones to do before the race, I suffered from a lot of oversteer. It’s a bit of a pity because we lost some valuable points, and I know that soon we’ll be hitting the half of the season and we are gonna miss them. Luckily we know what to change on the car to improve it and we hope to score a good result in Race 2”.

Luca Ghiotto (Q1 – P17; R1 – P16): “It’s been a difficult Saturday. After the bad luck we had in qualifying, the set-up for the race didn’t perform as we expected. Also, passing on this track is pretty difficult and it didn’t work out well for us. Now I have to cancel a day that I’ll never remember with much happiness and reverse my fortunes in Race 2. The World Series Renault has a clever schedule that enables teams and drivers to fight back with another qualifying session and race on Sunday… so I’ll start from scratch and I promise I’ll battle my way up to the front end of the charts”.
