Draco Racing endure frustrating final day in Moscow

Now the teams is looking forward to the next championship round in Nurburgring, aiming to quickly return to this Saturday's form.

After helping Pietro Fantin to achieve the first podium finish of his F.Renault 3.5 career yesterday, Draco Racing had to cope with a frustrating final day of F.Renault 3.5 running in Moscow.

The team owned by Guto Negrao and managed by Simone Giglio couldn't repeat yesterday's amazing result mainly because of a tricky qualifying session, in which both Fantin and team-mate Luca Ghiotto faced struggles. The Brazilian driver, who had grabbed a provisional P5 with the first set of tyres, spun in the gravel on his first lap with the second set, failing to improve his laptime and having to stick with a P20 start.

Ghiotto, meanwhile, struggled for pace and hit some traffic, ending up with a P17 that didn't reflect his true potential. The race didn't bring better news to the team: Fantin had to retire with a clutch issue after three laps, while Ghiotto's starting position meant that despite a good race pace he couldn't do better than P14.

Now the teams is looking forward to the next championship round in Nurburgring, aiming to quickly return to this Saturday's form.

Pietro Fantin (Q2 - P20; R2 - DNF): "After getting my first F.Renault 3.5 podium yesterday I hoped to do the same today, but things went south right from the morning qualifying session. I made a mistake and got stuck in the gravel, something that can happen when you are pushing really hard, but that has big consequences on a track like this, where a good grid spot is paramount to a good result in the race. Starting from P20 I was prepared to face a tricky race, but it was even worse, as a slippling clutch forced me to retire after just a few laps. Trying to look at positives, it was good to have such an issue today, as I would have been far off the points anyway".

Luca Ghiotto (Q2 - P17; R2 - P14): "Today was much better than yesterday, I felt more at ease in the car and even if qualifying wasn't too good once again, my race pace was quite ok. I managed to recover a couple of places on Tunjo and Nato, but then I got stuck behind Visser. I was reasonably faster than her, but she didn't do any mistake and I couldn't find a spot to pass her. This weekend didn't go as I had hoped, but I know that my potential is much better than this. I look forward to the Nurburgring round to get back on the pace".
