First day of official tests in Barcelona: Berhon very fast!
The 2010 season of the World Series by Renault 3.5 started today with the first day of collective test on the Catalunya Circuit in Barcelona.
In the paddock there were twelve teams, including of course the Draco team, champions 2009, with two new drivers, Nathanael Berthon and Julian Leal, who are already giving good evidence of their ability on track.
The colombian Leal has "opened the 2010 season" this morning, with the first few miles of the season with rain tires. By midmorning Berthon is the leader: the french rookie shows many record, improving more times. Only at the end of the morning he is overcame by a few tenths from Garcia. Berthon is ready to recapture the pole in the afternoon session and he went on track with new tires. Unfortunately, Albert Costa went against the French, forces him to go out and badly damaging his car. Costa is under investigation by the race direction, but meanwhile Berthon can't continue the test that probably would have seen the top of the standings.
For Leal was a day of tests at the box and on the track, the Colombian didn't put new tires and therefore he hasn't tried the fastest lap, but he preferred to focus on the analysis of various arrangements of the car in preparation for the championship. Tomorrow all drivers will be on track for the second day of test in Barcelona.
Nadia Morini, Team Manager Draco:
"I'm very regretted for Berthon, because during the second lap on new tires we saw that he was first and he could win the pole without the crash caused by the other driver. These are tests, we are all working for the season, the drivers need to understand this. Julian Leal today has had some problems with the position of the braking but we are also working to find a new arrangement, today we have preferred not to use the new tires and then for the times we have to see tomorrow."
Nathanael Berthon, Driver:
"The morning went very well and this afternoon I could have the pole with new tires, but the crash with Costa stopped me. But I was very fast, so I am ready for tomorrow."
Julian Leal, Driver:
"Today I tried various set-ups on the track and in the pits in view of the season, but we preferred not to put the new tires. We are doing a good job with the team and we will continue tomorrow"
