RELIABILITY PROBLEMS STOP MALDONADO AND DANIELSSON DURING TEST
Barcelona, 24th February 2005 -- Team DAMS retired from Barcelona test yesterday night due to a gearbox failure in the 2004 World Series Nissan car.
These test days have been organised by Renault to give the possibility to the drivers to start their training program early, with the 2004 World Series car. Even if some cars have been available for rent for the 2004 FRV6 Teams, the lack of spare parts became a problem for most of the teams after 2 days of testing and the problem encountered on the car used by DAMS could not be fixed for this reason.
In the morning Pastor Maldonado has worked on the balance of the car and did not look for performance with an understeering car. Alx Danielsson stopped after 10 laps for gearbox problems in the afternoon and quickly it appeared that there would not be any possibility to repair.
Eric Boullier, Managing Director : "We are really disappointed to leave Barcelona so early for such a reason. But what could we do, there are no spares available anywhere. This is really frustrating but we keep in mind the good performance of Paul Ricard test and we are now focusing on the new car which will be in our shop next week. The real test will start at Le Mans in April."
Next test : Le Mans with 2005 Formula Renault 3.5 car 2nd & 3rd April
