Brendon Hartley joins Tech 1 Racing!
New Zealand driver Brendon Hartley has joined Tech 1 Racing for at least the first three rounds of the 2009 Formula Renault 3.5 Series. With Charles Pic and Brendon Hartley, the Toulouse-based team is ideally armed to win a third team's title and reconquer the drivers' one.
Renault Development driver Charles Pic will team up with Brendon Hartley, Red Bull Junior Team driver, in Barcelona. The 19-year-old New Zealander, winner of the 2007 Renault 2.0 Eurocup and third in the 2008 British Formula 3 Championship, will have his first outing in the Renault 3.5 Series in Spain. Hartley is also racing in the F3 Euroseries Championship, and he will do at least the first 3 rounds (Barcelona, Spa-Francorchamps and Monaco) with Tech 1 Racing.
"This agreement with the Red Bull Junior Team is very good news for Tech 1 Racing. Brendon will do at least the first three events of the 2009 season with us. Depending on his availability, either he'll continue with us for the rest of the year or he'll be replaced by another Red Bull driver" says Simon Abadie.
"With Charles Pic and Brendon we're ideally armed to have a great season. Our recognition by the Renault Driver Development programme and by the Red Bull Junior Team proves that Tech 1 Racing has moved up to another level and gained in renown. We're all very motivated and ready to take up the challenge. We've got to be good straight away starting with this weekend in Barcelona."
The first collective test session on the Montmelo circuit is on Friday followed by qualifying on Saturday. The first race is on Saturday at 13h45 and the second on Sunday at 13h00. Both will be shown live on Eurosport.
