Championship leader Louis Deletraz took another step towards the 2016 Formula V8 3.5 title by topping qualifying for the final race of the season at a greasy Barcelona circuit.
The Fortec driver claimed the lead previously held by Matevos Isaakyan after the chequered flag fell, his 1m31.953s benchmark being the final time set in the session.
Isaakyan had to settle for second as he was nearly demoted by Jack Aitken as well, whose final effort was just two hundredths off the Russian's time.
Lotus duo Roy Nissany and Rene Binder took fourth and sixth respectively with Pietro Fittipaldi securing fifth between them.
Tom Dillmann, who is six points behind Deletraz in the standings, had a low-key session, only grabbing seventh.
He will start ahead of fellow Frenchmen Matthieu Vaxiviere and Aurelien Panis, while yesterday's race winner Egor Orudzhev only took 10th.
The session was red-flagged in the early stages after debutant Thomas Randle slid off to the gravel.
Soon after the restart, full-course yellow was deployed when Yu Kanamaru spun.
