Bilbao joins the World Series by Renault
The World Series by Renault, born from the merge of the two championships Eurocup Formula Renault V6 and World Series by Nissan, backed by Renault Sport Technologies in partnership with RPM, aims squarely at the public. Therefore, The World Series by Renault will have a second urban circuit in addition to Monaco in its 2005 calendar : Bilbao !
Last Monday, in the city of Bilbao, Ricardo Barkala, Councillor for Employment and Economic Promotion, Jesús Collazos, Motor Racing and Communications Director of Renault España, and Jaime Alguersuari, President of RPM, officially announced that Bilbao would be included in the World Series by Renault until 2007.
With the exception of Monte Carlo, never before has any European city invested approximately 16 million euros in consolidating over 3 years - 2005, 2006 and 2007 - an urban circuit with FIA-approved characteristics, similar to Monte Carlo. Due to Renault Sport Technologies and RPM's new strategy, Bilbao will be the only race in the World Series by Renault held in Spain.
The track will be approximately 4 km, will cross the two most important bridges in the city, over the river Nervión, and will occupy the heart of the city, in the Guggenheim Museum area. It will be possible to overtake and the average speed will be over 130 km/h, soaring to 250 km./h at one point in the circuit.
The Spanish event will take place on July, 24 2005. The racing programme will be the same as for the other meetings of the World Series by Renault.
Only categories programmed in the World Series by Renault will compete. The main event will be the World Series Formula Renault V6. The Formula Renault 2000, the new Mégane Trophy as well as the Clio Cup will also be part of the meeting.
In addition, Jean-Paul Mari, Communications and Motor Racing Director of Renault Sport Technologies and Jesús Collazos confirmed that the World Series by Renault will host demonstrations by the Renault F1 Team.
