Portugal GP review, the new Redbull Powertrain Area, Ferrari’s Barcelona set-up

Lewis Hamilton was able to afford an attacking race thanks to a W12 that with high temperatures and a track with wide corners like Portimão finds its best performance.

A step back due to wrong set-ups, or the SF21 in hot weather shows its limits in the race pace with a problematic tire deterioration? The doubt, with a few time before the Barcelona race, is that there is no time to analyze the data from Portimão and the thermal behavior of the tire compounds. The risk is that the balance problems in the race are linked to fuel consumption, already present on last year's SF1000 from which the SF21 is strictly derived in the chassis.

The Alpine project begins to take shape with the first results confirming the right development of the A521. Ocon seventh has already been 2 times out of 3 GPs ahead of the experienced Fernando Alonso, eighth at Portimão.

The new powertrain area that will give continuity to the Honda Power Unit represents Dietreich Mateschitz's largest investment since 2005, the year of the founding of Red Bull Racing. A very aggressive recruitment campaign has already begun that snatches an absolute reference figure from Mercedes like Ben Hodgkinson, head of Power Unit engineering.

Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes share the push rod scheme but the number of shock absorbers, the conformation and the positioning of the anti-roll bars is radically different. ChronoGP focuses on the 3 different front suspensions of the Formula 1 Top Teams.

An unexpected setback even for Ferrari that could have consequences also for the next race in Barcelona.

Binotto: “Expectations for Barcelona? It will be an important testing ground . It’s one of those tracks where you put yourself out there. If you are competitive, you can be strong everywhere”.

In preparation for a technical and representative circuit such as Montmelo Ferrari has tested beforehand a new aero package that could be adopted by the SF21 in Barcelona or maybe in the next few races.
