Toro Rosso rookie sets the pace on super-soft tyres, and is well clear of the pack.
Teenaged Formula One racer Max Verstappen set the fastest lap on the third morning of Formula One testing at Barcelona.
The Toro Rosso youngster slapped a set of super-soft tyres on his Renault-powered Toro Rosso STR10 and lapped the Spanish GP venue in 1m24.739s. The time is just a couple of tenths slower than Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo lapped in yesterday, when he did a 1m24.574s.
World champion Lewis Hamilton was second fastest for Mercedes, ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, who suffered an embarrassing start to the day when he spun off on cold tyres first thing.
Daniil Kvyat is fourth fastest for Red Bull, ahead of Williams’s Felipe Massa, Force India’s Pascal Wehrlein – who is on loan from Mercedes – and Lotus's Pastor Maldonado.
Jenson Button has had a troubled morning again in the new McLaren-Honda, as it shut down on track causing a red flag. Marcus Ericsson also didn't do many laps due to a gearbox issue with his Sauber.
Light rain showers have affected the running this morning.
