Williams has closed gap to the front - Bottas

Valtteri Bottas believes that Williams took a step forward in the Spanish Grand Prix, despite having a relatively limited update package.

Bottas finished fourth in Barcelona and, having held off Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel in Bahrain, this time he had to keep Kimi Raikkonen behind.

Vettel himself admitted after the race that Williams was now closer to Ferrari

"It was a bit of a repeat from the last race," said Bottas.

"In the end it was keeping one of the Ferraris behind, which was nice to achieve, because it's always important points.

"It's just nice to be between the two red cars.

"If we look at the race result it was really the closest race we've been to the leader and to the Ferraris.

"We know the updates we brought weren't big, but for sure we haven't fallen back.

"I think we have closed the gap slightly."

Regarding how the car performed on the tyres, he added: "It was a little bit better than expected. We were going into the race thinking three stops, but in the end we did two stops."

Bottas says it is hard to predict the team's form in Monaco, although he's wary of the car's form in slower corners.

"It's a completely different track there. It's difficult to predict how strong we will be. We know our strengths in the cars are not the slow speed corners, which Monaco is full of.

"It's one of those tracks where if you get a good qualifying lap many things are possible."
