BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen knows that Williams may not be favourite to win the title this year but it is possible. With fourteen points scored by Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya in the first two races, Williams is currently third in the championship, only two points behind the tied second place of Renault and Ferrari.

McLaren are at the top with twenty six points but Theissen has faith in the Williams FW25: "The BMW WilliamsF1 Team can win the championship already this year," he told the BMW website. "We aren't the favourite team, that's for certain, but it's possible. The FW25's become significantly better than the FW24. I'm optimistic."

Although Theissen thinks it is right to learn from other teams, he does not want to copy anyone else's strategy. BMW uses its resources to further its Formula One interests and Theissen thinks they do it better than Ferrari, which is enabling Williams' performance to get nearer to the Maranello marque.

"There are things that we consciously do differently and, I think, better than the competition," he said. "For example, our motor sports division has a much closer connection to the BMW series car production. We make better use of the resources. We pass our knowledge on in a better way than is the case with Fiat and Ferrari. This is one of the reasons why we're closing the gap to Ferrari."
