BMW Williams had a bit of an explosive time in France recently after engineers accidently left a package in a car hire depot. On their way to the Michelin test track at Marimas in June, the package, reportedly containing an experimental air-box and nose cone, was overlooked in the general mayhem.

French police were decidedly suspicious of the unknown box and decided the best thing to do was to blow it up in a controlled explosion. Suspecting it may have been a bomb, the Gendarmerie took maximum precautions and detonated the package.

Williams technical director Patrick Head was said to be less than amused but wryly described the incident as 'the ultimate crash test'. The nose-cone, sadly, did not survive.
