Mercedes has revealed the changes made to its shark fin to comply with Formula 1's new regulations on displaying clear names and numbers. From the Spanish Grand Prix, race numbers should be at least 230mm high and names 150mm, both exhibited on the external body.
The German outfit, the first to have revealed its new look, has chosen to display driver names and numbers on the shark fin, as well as increase the size of the numbers on the front of the car. Additionally, the corner of the shark fin shows the driver's nationality with a subtle flag.
It's not confirmed how other teams will display their information, as the rules don't completely limit the design, but it's expected that the other teams will reveal their cars before this weekend's action at Barcelona.

The 2018 cars won't have such defined fins and T-wings with the F1 Strategy Group having tabled rules to limit their use last month. Both aerodynamic devices have been borne out of loopholes in regulations drawn up for the new, 2017 cars, with little in the way to define the dimensions of bodywork on the engine cover.
The Strategy Group also prioritised a screen instead of the 'halo' device for drivers' head protection, with tests later this year and an introduction in 2018. Oil levels will be measured before and after qualifying sessions to stop its use as fuel, with allegations on that front mainly pointed towards Mercedes.
