The start of the 2005 season is just a couple of weeks away and prior to the opening race in Melbourne, Mark Webber will drive a Williams F1 car across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. A week before the Australian Grand Prix, local hero Webber will be flagged off by NSW Premier Bob Carr to cross the famous landmark.

"It's sure to be an incredible experience driving the Williams BMW F1 car across one of the world's most famous and spectacular landmarks," said Webber.

"The Sydney Harbour Bridge is so instantly recognisable as Australia, so I can't think of a better appetiser for the following weekend's Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne."

"For me it's even more special as it's my home country and I'm very proud that we are able to stage such a spectacle to promote Formula One, not just in Australia but around the world."

"A lot of people may come up to Sydney from my home town, Queanbeyan, so it will be great to be able to put on a good show for them and the rest of the fans before we get down to serious business in Melbourne."

Ron Walker, chairman of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, commented: "It's one of the most fantastic international promotional activities I've had the pleasure of being involved in."

The event, dubbed "Webber's Sydney Harbour Bridge Overdrive", will take place during the morning of Sunday February 27th. The Australian Grand Prix, at Melbourne's Albert Park, is on March 6th.
