Both Mark Webber and Fernando Alonso are shaken after their huge crashes in the Brazilian Grand Prix yesterday but are fit and well to race at Imola. Webber crashed heavily into the tyre wall at the start of the pit straight: "I have absolutely no idea what I hit, where I hit or how I hit!" He said but thinks it could have been due to the heavy fuel load and the slippery conditions making the Jaguar's tyres struggle to grip.

Webber suffered some minor neck abrasions from seat belts but was otherwise unscathed. Alonso's Renault ploughed into the wreckage on the track from the Jaguar, impacted into the tyre wall then spun across the track to hit the opposite wall.

The Spaniard extracted himself from what was left of the car but was limping, then sat at the side of the track and was attended by medics. He was stretched to an ambulance and on to hospital as a precaution but was later discharged with only a sore leg to show for his frightening experience.

"I thought my race was going pretty well," said Alonso. "But then I came round the final corner to find debris everywhere and I had nowhere to go. I think I hit a wheel, and the next thing I knew I was headed for the barriers."

Due to the red flag situation, Alonso still managed to claim his second podium finish in third and Webber scored points in seventh.
