Jacques Villenueve's manager Craig Pollock has defended the Canadian by saying he's still one of the top open-wheel drivers in the world. Villeneuve's future is uncertain; he may stay with BAR but the rumour mill suggests he and the team will part company at the end of this season.

Boss David Richards recently said he wouldn't be making any decisions about drivers until after the British Grand Prix next weekend, although Jenson Button has a long term contract.

"Absolutely nothing has been decided yet," said Pollock. "Jacques is currently in the top two or three open-wheel drivers in the world. He's won the Indy 500, he's won a Cart championship and he's won a world title. He's just 32-years-old and with the right equipment capable of winning another championship."

Pollock said Villeneuve would not return to CART but hinted he may be open to offers from NASCAR. The Canadian has struggled this season and has been victim of far too many mechanical failures. However, he's looking forward to Silverstone, a track he has won at twice in the past.

"I enjoy racing at Silverstone," said Villeneuve. "Although there aren't many overtaking opportunities, the track is fun to drive. When we tested at Silverstone not so long ago, we didn't have a great test, but having said that our test in Barcelona last week went a lot better than when we were there for the race weekend, so I am optimistic and really looking forward to it."
