Joe Brown, the Executive Editor of Wired US, spoke at the FIA Conference Week in Mexico, giving an expert view on why motor sport has been slow to embrace social media, but also looking at how it can harness the power of digital and online platforms to reach new audiences and grow the sport.

Joe is an engaging character, who also happens to be a big F1 fan. We took the opportunity to shoot two videos with him.

This is the first of them, in which we talk about how F1 can engage with fans through social media, looking at how the show can be improved for new and existing audiences and looking ahead to what platforms fans will use in the future to engage with the sport. We also talk about the dividing line between danger and entertainment, which is a real talking point at the moment.

In the second video, to be posted shortly, Joe makes some fascinating suggestions for things he would do to improve F1 for the digital age.
