Vettel and Kvyat at odds over first-lap incident

A fast-starting Kvyat dived down the inside of Vettel into Turn 1 for third place, the German attempting to take avoiding action and instead hitting his teammate Kimi Raikkonen.

For the rest of the race, Vettel would go on to criticise Kvyat's move a number of times over the radio - and, even as he took the chequered flag in second, the German radioed to Ferrari: "Massive apologies for the team, but surely I didn't do it on purpose and I'm sorry for Kimi.

"Nothing I could do, Kvyat came in like a torpedo."

With Kvyat also making in onto the podium - the Russian picking up Red Bull's first top-three finish of the season - his incredulous question prompted a post-race argument with Vettel:

Vettel: You came like a torpedo!

Kvyat: That's racing.

Vettel: If I keep going the same line, you crash!

Kvyat: Don't keep going...

Vettel: But there's a car on the left!

Kvyat: Like I can see all three cars ahead. I have only two eyes.

Vettel: You shouldn't crash into people like that.

Kvyat: We didn't.

Vettel: You didn't. 

In the subsequent podium interviews, Vettel elaborated: "Obviously it is difficult to judge how it looked from his point of view, my start not so great and Kimi locked up and went wide, I went on inside.

"Daniil was trying to do same thing with me, he was coming with a lot of speed into the gap.

"I was surprised and I had to steer to left and Kimi came across and we made contact. It is a shame, as you don't want same cars touching ever – luckily we could continue."

Kvyat, meanwhile, responded: "I had a really good start and, you see a gap and you go on the inside, in the end you see only one car.

"It was a risky move, I agree with Seb, but these kinds of moves can give you the podium, he is on podium, so it is fine.

"I willl keep risking like that, people can expect that."
