The Stewart-Ford team announced that it intends to install Jos Verstappen alongside Rubens Barrichello for the remainder of the 1998 FIA Formula One World Championship season. The 26-year-old Dutchman will make his debut for the Team at the French Grand Prix at Magny Cours on June 28, subject to the completion of contractual and other arrangements. After completing a promising three-day test at Magny Cours this week with Rubens Barrichello, it was felt that Verstappen's feedback about the car's performance would prove beneficial to the team in moving its 1998 program forward. Verstappen, who competed with Tyrrell-Ford in 1997, has driven in a total of 48 Grands Prix. In 1994, at the wheel of a Benetton-Ford, he scored 10 championship points and two third-place finishes. His most recent success was sixth place for Arrows in Argentina in 1996. The Stewart-Ford team completed a two car test at Magny Cours. Both Jos and Rubens worked through a number of programs in an effort to arrive at a satisfactory set-up for the French Grand Prix.
