US GP: Final practice to go ahead as planned

Final practice for the United States Grand Prix will go ahead as planned despite the treacherous weather conditions in Austin.

The FIA had been waiting to make a decision based on track conditions and, after the safety and medical cars completed a lap of the track, it has been announced FP3 will take place at 10am local time as scheduled.

However, access to the circuit has been shut down until noon, meaning the session will take place with no fans in the grandstand.

At the time of writing, the rain remained heavy and it was very windy on track.

There is a possibility that the final practice results could determine the grid for tomorrow's race if qualifying does not take place later today.

"If more than one driver falls into a single category in b) or d) above they will be arranged on the grid in the order they were classified in the previous period of qualifying or, in the case of Q1, the order they were classified in P3," says article 36.2 of the sporting rules.
