FORD TO POWER TYRRELL IN 1997

The Tyrrell Formula One team announced today that it will use a new version of the Ford V8 engine to power its 1997 F1 challenger - the Tyrrell-Ford 025.

Said Harvey Postlethwaite, Tyrrell's Managing Director - Engineering: "We are delighted to have concluded our agreement with Ford. The decision followed a recent visit to Cosworth's headquarters where I was most impressed with the extent of the V8 development programme for next year, and the performance improvements which were already in the pipeline."

Said Ken Tyrrell: "We have enjoyed a close and most friendly association with Yamaha for the past four years. We did not achieve the objectives that either Tyrrell or Yamaha sought from the association this year and the time has now come for us to go our separate ways. We wish Yamaha success in the future."

Said Martin Whitaker, Ford Director of European Motorsport: "Ford has a commitment to success in Formula 1 and we are very pleased indeed to have Ken Tyrrell and his experienced team competing next year with our engine. There is a dedicated development programme for the engine underway and next year will see further performance advances to underline our support to the Tyrrell team. We have much admired their determination and commitment and are delighted to have our engines powering the Tyrrell-Ford 025."
