Nine drivers were at work at the Paul Ricard track in France on Thursday, where Toyota tester Olivier Panis was the quickest man of the day. Panis clocked a best time of 1:04.877 and fellow Toyota test driver Ricardo Zonta was second quickest, a couple of tenths down. The pair racked up over 230 laps between them as preparations continued for Monaco.

McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen, fastest man yesterday, was third on the time sheet and teammate Juan Pablo Montoya was seventh. Renault continued with testers Heikki Kovalainen and Franck Montagny on duty, fourth and fifth respectively. They completed the team's tyre and set up work for Monaco.

David Coulthard and Tonio Liuzzi were again on track for Red Bull and were sixth and eighth fastest respectively. Jacques Villeneuve took over from Felipe Massa at Sauber and rounded off the times in ninth. Set up, tyres and validation of front wing and suspension specifications were Villeneuve's focus for the day.

BAR opted not to run today: "With rain predicted for later this afternoon, and the circuit still in the short Monaco-style layout as agreed with the other teams, it was decided to save a day's testing," it said in a brief statement. Jenson Button and Takuma Sato are expected to be back at work on Friday.

Williams concluded its solo three-day test at Vallelunga, near Rome, with Mark Webber and tester Antonio Pizzonia on track. Over the course of the test practice starts, traction control, tyres and checks for the cooling system were carried out. Webber set the best time on Thursday, 56.632.

Ferrari continued at Fiorano with Michael Schumacher and test driver Luca Badoer at work. Tyres were the main focus for the pair, with Schumacher setting the best time of 57.597. Badoer was just a couple of tenths behind and he will carry on with the test tomorrow.
