Toyota has restarted testing of its new Formula 1 car at Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France this afternoon. Test driver Allan McNish completed a total of 8 laps of the 4km track with no major problems. "For the first laps in the F1 car I was very pleased by its feelings and reactions," he said.

Testing was suspended on Sunday when Mika Salo hit the circuit wall. He suffered back pains as a result of the incident. Following further medical examinations, team doctor Riccardo Ceccarelli has advised Mika to rest at his home in Finland for a couple of weeks before continuing with his fitness programme.

Testing of the Toyota F1 car will continue behind closed doors as planned with Allan McNish until 30 March.
