Toyota Motor Corporation and Toyota Motorsport GmbH announced today that Toyota has come to a basic agreement on a sponsorship deal with Intel Corporation, the world's largest chip maker. The agreement includes substantial technical and marketing collaboration between the two companies.

Intel Itanium 2 processor based solutions will help dramatically advance Toyota Motorsport GmbH's computing infrastructure in terms of technical capability and raw performance. In addition, the sponsorship deal will see Intel's Itanium 2 processor brand logo appear on the rear wing of the 2004 Panasonic Toyota Formula 1 Racing car, the TF104. The TF104 will be launched at the team's factory in Cologne, Germany on Saturday 17 January. Additionally, Intel's corporate logo will appear on the side of the TF104 and on its nose, as well as branded on team clothing, driver overalls, pit walls, motorhomes and technical trucks.

John Howett, President of Toyota Motorsport GmbH, is pleased to welcome Intel to the Panasonic Toyota Racing team: "It is a fitting start to our 2004 season that we are able to join forces with such a globally renowned corporation as Intel. Intel's Itanium 2 processor is a world-class performance server processor and Toyota has decided to take advantage of this architecture to develop a computing design edge in the highly competitive world of F1. Ahead of our TF104 car launch this weekend, I am pleased to welcome Intel to the Panasonic Toyota Racing team. Together, I am sure we will reap mutually beneficial rewards as we aim to close the gap to the top F1 teams over the coming season."

Mike Fister, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of Intel Corporation's Enterprise Platforms Group added: "The decision to associate the Intel Itanium 2 processor family and sponsor Toyota's F1 team was a natural one. Both Intel and Toyota stand out as leaders of global manufacturing and innovation within our respective industries, and both strive to constantly deliver products that showcase high reliability and quality combined with performance. We're proud to stand behind the Toyota F1 team and its goal of winning world championship races in the next couple of years."
