From the wet and miserable weather conditions last week in Silverstone, where both Mika Salo and Allan McNish retired from the British Grand Prix with mechanical problems, the Panasonic Toyota Racing team today began a four-day test at a much warmer Monza circuit. Allan McNish had a difficult first day at the Italian track with an electronics problem affecting running.

"We had some problems this morning and did not do any running at all. We started to work on aero balance in the afternoon in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix, as Monza is different to any other circuit for this. We also looked closely at how the car rides the kerbs - a big problem we had in Montreal and something we have to work on at this kind of track, but it's early days."

Allan completes his two days behind the wheel of the TF102 in Italy tomorrow. Mika Salo will conclude the four-day test on Thursday and Friday.
