Japan hosts final overseas test

Toyota's 2002 driver line-up of Mika Salo and Allan McNish shared testing duties at the teams final overseas test session in Japan. Mika ran on 22 and 23 October whilst Allan completed the three-day test at the Suzuka circuit today.

Both drivers again concentrated on collecting circuit data, continuing to develop launch control and further work on engine mappings and car set-up.

"For me it was a very good test," said driver Mika Salo. "We did not test any technical update but we learned a lot about the circuit. It was exciting being back in Japan with such a big interest in Toyota F1."

"It was good day to reacquaint myself with the Suzuka circuit," said Allan McNish. "We tried to find the various settings, but unfortunately we stopped a bit before the end of the session with a mechanical problem. Nevertheless I found it a worthwhile day's testing."

Technical co-ordinator engine department, Keizo Takahasi, said:" We are all very pleased with our visit to Japan apart from a few small problems with hydraulic and fuel pressure. It was a good opportunity for the Japanese media to see a Toyota test and to see the car running."

The weather was generally sunny during the three-day test but there was some heavy rain on Monday.

The number of laps completed and the best lap times are below:
22-23 October Mika Salo 1m38.02s 105 laps
24 October Allan McNish 1m38.89s 52 laps
