Toro Rosso relaxed about engine plans as Ferrari deal nears

The Faenza-based outfit knows that its future in F1 rests on Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz finding a solution to sister team Red Bull's engine crisis, but Tost is relaxed about his own situation.

With it understood that Ferrari has agreed in principle to supply Toro Rosso with 2015-specification power units, Tost knows that his team's plans can get sorted very quickly once the Red Bull solution is found.

“I am convinced that in a short period of time we will be sorted out,” he told Motorsport.com. 

“We have to be concentrated to get everything together in time with the drawing office to release the drawings and then once more, the production will be pushed very hard.

"But that is F1, that is how it is and we are prepared.”

24-hour plan

The late change of engine plans means that Toro Rosso will be up against it to sort out the installation and 2016 car build in time for the first pre-season test next February.

However, the team has already put in place an emergency response to make sure it is ready – which will mean 24-hour shifts at the factory.

When asked what the deadline was to ensure Toro Rosso made the first test, Tost said: “We had a task force meeting last week regarding drawing releases and regarding productions, and we decided to shift to a three-shift production. So then we will see.

“But it is not in my hands to talk about a deadline, I have to accept what is coming.”
