BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen gives an inside view of the preparations for the eighth Grand Prix of the 2004 FIA Formula One World Championship at Montreal.
"For BMW, North America is the most important overseas market. Therefore, it's always very special for us to go racing over there. The Canadian Grand Prix traditionally attracts many BMW enthusiasts and friends, with the special charm of this event being just one of the reasons for them to come."
"The 'Circuit Gilles Villeneuve' is located on the picturesque island 'Ile Notre Dame,' in the middle of the mighty St Lawrence River. The Formula One circuit is surrounded by the remains of the 1967 World Exposition and the 1976 Summer Olympics, with the paddock facilities adjoining the Olympic rowing basin."
"In the city of Montreal, people are already looking forward to their Formula One Grand Prix. The citizens of Montreal are accustomed to a long and cold winter, so it comes as no surprise that they are more than ready to welcome the summer. On Saturday evening, BMW Canada traditionally organises a street party, the "M-Night." For this event, Peel Street, in Montreal's city centre, is closed-off and decorated with numerous beautiful BMW M models. Live music helps create an exciting atmosphere, while our drivers are there for a meet and greet with their fans."
"For the first time this year, the BMW young guns are also racing in Canada, with the Formula BMW USA event being run as a support race for the Canadian Grand Prix. For the youngsters, this weekend is a good chance to adapt to the huge Formula One crowds as the Formula BMW USA will also be a part of the US Grand Prix weekend which takes place next week at Indianapolis."
"In spite of all the action taking place at Montreal this weekend, we will be keeping an eye on what is happening in Germany at the N?rburgring 24 Hour Race as we are quite obviously emotionally involved in the performance of our two BMW M3 GTR."
"All things considered, you have to admit that BMW will experience an extremely intense weekend of motor racing, and we hope that our efforts in all areas will pay off and keep the BMW enthusiast both in Canada and at the N?rburgring happy."
