The secret room that shows what F1's really about
Regular viewers of Formula 1 will know that trying to second guess in-race strategies can become part of the fun. But just how hectic can grands prix be for those whose job it is to execute the split-second decisions?

There is something slightly depressing about the fact that Formula 1's two main talking points since the chequered flag came down on last season have been about a logo and grid girls – two things that make absolutely zero difference to the racing on Sundays.
This off-season has been an incredibly quiet one, although 2016's benchmark was set quite high when the world champion quit a few days after the season finale to set up a winter silly season.

Jonathan Noble is Motorsport.com’s Formula 1 editor. Jonathan has won multiple awards for journalism - in 1991 he was the winner of the Guild of Motoring Writers’ Sir William Lyons’ Award for young journalists, in 2010 he was awarded the Outstanding Individual accolade for consumer journalism in the Haymarket wards, in 2011 he won Haymarket’s Scoop of the Year, and in 2018 he was awarded a prestigious Medaglia d’Oro at the Lorenzo Bandini Awards for his contribution to F1 journalism.
