F1 teams fill up with supersofts for Italian GP
Formula 1 teams have filled up their tyre allocation with supersofts for the Italian Grand Prix.
Only three outfits – Mercedes, Force India and Haas – have elected not to take the maximum number of 10 sets of the softest tyre for the Monza weekend.
Those teams will have three sets of softs to play with for the weekend, whereas their rivals will have just two.
With the Italian venue being mostly about top speed, and there being very little tyre degradation, there was little incentive to choose the soft or medium options on performance grounds.
The Monza decision comes ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend that could be a different story on the tyre front, with Pirelli taking the ultrasoft there for the first time.
Pirelli is expecting at least a two-stop race at Spa-Francorchamps with the ultrasoft likely to experience high degradation on the circuit's challenging high-speed corners.
