After Juan Pablo was granted to perform the maiden voyage in the WilliamsF1 BMW FW25 on February 31st, Ralf Schumacher and Marc Gené carried out the first tests of the car for the season 2003 on February 1st at the Circuit de Catalunya.

The test session took place in chilly weather. In the morning, temperatures of only slightly above zero had been measured, during the day temperatures rose to only ten degrees with the sky overcast at the Grand Prix circuit for the most part.

Nevertheless, Ralf and Marc were able to prove the successful design of the FW25. Both drivers undercut the fastest race lap of 2002, set by Michael Schumacher, by more than a second. Ralf set his fastest lap of the day in his 40th run at 1:19.050 minutes, Marc was almost as fast with a 1:19.154.

In the 42 laps Ralf completed, he also performed a long stint of ten laps. Marc completed only a total of 14 laps, but achieved the top speed of the day with 293.69 kph. The Spaniard tested only in the morning and the late afternoon, whereas Ralf was out on the track in his FW25 from 10.51 am to 4.21 pm.

Until February 5th, the BMW WilliamsF1 Team will continue its test drives in Barcelona.
