Enstone-Viry... ahead of England-France!
There's a tense atmosphere building in the Renault F1 Team garage: just a few minutes after the finish of the Grand Prix, the team will be split down the middle...
For the Renault F1 Team, the England-France match has already started. Yesterday evening, once most of the team had left the circuit at Montreal, some engineers from Viry-Châtillon took the opportunity to plaster the telemetry screens with French flags. In black letters on each one, a message: "Allez la France!" On the English side of the garage, two or three English flags were replaced by the red white and blue of La Belle France. For once, this evening, the story will be all about Viry against Enstone.
"We are one team when it comes to preparing the cars," explained a team member. "However, when it gets to the football, everybody has their national team!" The match will be shown on the television screens in the paddock hospitality area, behind the garage. "It's going to be hard not to go and watch for a moment, to use the excuse of needing a cup of tea... or a quick bathroom break..." smiled another mechanic. As for Pat Symonds, he has just one worry: "That the race might be delayed by a safety car and finish later than expected!"
It goes without saying that there are widely varying predictions within the team, but work will have to come before pleasure. As of tomorrow, the team's freight will leave for Indianapolis -- the US Grand Prix is to be held just next weekend. "I will make sure everything is ready to go on time," concludes Team Manager Steve Nielsen. "However, we might have to be a little more tolerant than usual...!"
