BMW Williams topped the test sheets at Silverstone today, test driver Marc Gene completed a huge 78 laps and clocking a fastest of 1.23.115. Williams worked on an extensive Michelin trye programme and new engine components. The Grove team were joined by Renault and BAR, Renault test driver Fernando Alonso second fastest in the B201. Alonso was working on electronics -- possibly searching for a solution to the failed traction control that sent Jarno Trulli out of the Australian Grand Prix.

Third fastest was Anthony Davidson for BAR, who limited on track activity to one or two laps at a time to maximise the scant mileage left in the Honda engine. Davidson was working on aerodynamics and electronics and managed a 1.26.425. He was using the old style 2001 chassis and will continue working at the Santa Pod drag strip in the UK tomorrow.
