Sergio Perez took a sly jab at Red Bull on social media after a joke X account shared an Avengers meme hinting that the Mexican driver may not have been treated fairly at the Milton Keynes outfit.
The former Red Bull driver shared the post with a simple caption: "Perhaps".
Perez drove for Red Bull from 2021 until 2024, when he was replaced by rookie Liam Lawson for 2025. While Perez sometimes struggled to extract the same performance out of the car as his team-mate at the time, Max Verstappen, he often played a strong supporting role for the four-time champion.
During the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Verstappen's 2025 team-mate, Yuki Tsunoda, was defending against the Dutchman's championship rival, Lando Norris. But the Briton made the pass quickly and went on to secure the title with a third-place finish, which seemed to spur on the joke post from the F1 Troll account.
"He takes his moment to defend himself," one fan commented on the exchange on Reddit, while another responded: "He is the minister of defence."
"Perez's struggles were blown out of proportion because of narratives and because Max was his team-mate. The only question is whether RB is willing to change their car development culture in 2026 as it was mostly successful from having Max and once he's gone, they're gonna go backwards," another fan wrote.
Someone else argued: "People [are] quick to forget that Checo was actually pretty good in the 2nd seat until RBR royally fumbled the car starting midway through 2023. Max covered up a lot of warts in that car through the beginning of 2024."
Perez is set to return to the F1 grid in 2026 with Cadillac alongside former Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas.
"I'm all for the Checo revenge tour next year," someone posted, while another added: "Checo and Bottas will make a great duo next year. Can't wait for all the s***housery."
Another added: "I would love for Sergio and Valtteri to be powerhouses next year and be like... Seee... see how good we are???!!!!!!!!"
