Sebastian Vettel quickest for Ferrari as Pirelli wet weather Formula 1 test ends

Sebastian Vettel set the quickest time of the Pirelli wet weather Formula 1 test on the second day of running at Paul Ricard.

Vettel, who took over running for Ferrari from Kimi Raikkonen for the final day of the event, set a time that was less than 0.1s faster than Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat, but was almost two second quicker than Daniel Ricciardo’s best effort from day one.

The four-times world champion completed 134 laps for the Scuderia and the teams were again prevented from running any experimental parts or updates on the 2015 machines that were in action.

Both Vettel and Kvyat completed more laps that their teammates did on Monday, while Stoffel Vandoorne logged 127 laps for McLaren on his second consecutive day of running for the British team.

Pirelli again gave the drivers various sets of development rubber with a total of ten runs scheduled for each driver to allow the track to be completely re-soaked in between each outing.

In total, the three teams completed 659 laps over 2326km across the two-day event but in today’s running Pirelli used intermediate tyres to act as a baseline indicator as it evaluated drying track conditions on Tuesday.

Jock Clear also made his first appearance in Ferrari colours after his move from Mercedes was completed ahead of the 2016 campaign, as the British engineer settles into his new job as head of race operations for the Italian team.
