Michael Schumacher merely confused people even more with his attempt at explaining the Ferrari Indy result said Bernie Ecclestone, who thinks the champion is not very 'street-wise'. Ecclestone believed Schumacher was aiming for a formation finish and was surprised that Barrichello sneaked the win from him.

"I don't think for one minute Michael wanted to hand the win to Rubens but he did want both of them to cross the line almost side by side like they do at Le Mans," a British tabloid quoted Ecclestone. "That's why Michael was shocked to see Rubens go by. The trouble is that Michael is not very street-wise and just confused the issue by trying to explain what happened."

However, Ecclestone also said that at least the US Grand Prix result had generated a reaction: "At least what happened in the US has got people talking about Formula One. It's stirred things up. This season has been one-sided but it's not long since McLaren and Williams were taunting Ferrari for not winning the title for 20 years. Things have swung round."

It may have got people talking but as always opinions were split. Some were amused by the Ferrari antics and it made no difference to them who won but an equal amount were dismayed by what they perceived as another manipulation of race results.
