Yesterday evening, Michael Schumacher was formally invested as an Ambassador of the Republic of San Marino.

The five times world champion has taken on the role of special ambassador for his humanitarian work. A statement from the Republic says that it has been impressed by the Scuderia Ferrari driver's humanitarian work, especially as Michael is already a Unesco Ambassador and a representative of the Bjorn Steiger Foundation.

He has also recently taken on the role of representative for the ICM, an institute which works in the area of brain and spinal column defects, such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. The President of the Institute is Professor Gerard Saillant, who already knows Michael, as he was the surgeon who removed the pins from the German driver's legs, after his Silverstone accident a few years ago.

Yesterday evening at 19h00, Michael was sworn in, with a solemn ceremony at the Palazzo Pubblico of the Republic of San Marino. "I feel honoured and proud to have been nominated as an Ambassador of the Republic of San Marino," said Schumacher. "This appointment is a further impetus for the work I already do. Unfortunately, it is a fact that many people need our help. In particular, our attention compassion and support is needed to help children who are not able to help themselves."
